K-12 and the Internet

Having just read Soloway’s (et al., 2000) article I can’t help but come away convinced that internet is an essential part of the modern day classroom. It’s easy accessibility, vast resources and (when properly monitored) interactive and thought provoking. The only suggestion that I reacted to was that the internet could actually replace and out do libraries in primary schools. I believe that libraries will always be essential and do have some advantages over the internet. For example, much of the reliable sources on the internet are from books and other sources published in hard copy. Libraries also can answer many of the student’s varied questions and thoroughly despite what the article suggests (Soloway, et al., 2000, p20.). All in all however I agree that the internet does connect ourselves and our students to the world in an astounding way and has a clear and lasting place in the classroom.
